Kathy & Mom along the Yachats 804 Trail

Now that's drift wood!

Doing a little exploring

Looks like some giant child left his toys laying about

Mom & Michael

Mom, Dad & Kathy

The waves hitting the rocks are amazing - but it's real hard to catch the picture

Now THAT house has a view!

The sun through the waves makes them look translucent.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Hundreds of common murres - they look like little penguins.

The rocks on the other side of the lighthouse are also covered with birds.

Looks like mostly cormorants with a few pelicans at the bottom

Mom & ET in the solarium

This little tree is in need of pruning. So Michael & Dad are gonna work on it.

Dad took the clippers to it.

They cut out a couple branches and really opened it up.

Then they got the hedge trimmer out.

Just like giving it a hair cut.

Mom was in charge of picking up the cuttings.

Here's the proud trimming team.

Old covered bridge on a very narrow road out in the woods.

Mom & Dad

We were told this is a 400 year old spruce.

The tree is huge! It dwarfs Michael.

We took a drive along one of the forestry roads. The wildflowers were amazing.

Foxgloves grew wild everywhere

No idea what these are but thought they were interesting

These lined the road and had to be over four feet tall.

This hillside had been logged and the flowers were taking over

Flowers everywhere you look

I want some of these for MY garden

We came out at the top of Cape Perpetua. The trail overlooks the Devil's Churn Visitor Center and coastline.

During the early days of WWII this shelter built by the CCC's at the top of Cape Perpetua was used as an observation site and radar station.

From it you can see 70 miles of coastline and 36 miles out to sea.

Waiting for the 4th of July La De Da parade in Yachats to start

The parade route runs right along the bluff

Pretty awesome scenery while we waited for the parade to start

And here comes the 1st float

Everybody is either in the parade or goes to the parade

The umbrella drill team was a riot

And the belly dancers was something

The End

Seal Rock at low tide is a very popular place.

Lots of cool rock formations.

The tide pools are full of Sea Stars and Anemones. Most people call Sea Stars, Starfish - but they are not fish! Marine scientists are trying to replace the Starfish name with Sea Star.

Not a bad background for pictures

Tiny waterfalls pour into tide pools.

I must have taken several dozen sea star pictures

Sea Gulls are all over the place

Dad decided to climb the rocks to see what was on the other side

Over the rock wall he found more rocks and of course the ocean

Then he had to find his way back down

And collapse on a huge driftwood log for rest

Mom was to smart too follow Dad up the rock wall!

Orange and purple sea stars hide under every ledge.

These people better work their way back to the sand, the tide is coming in!

Then we trek back up the hill to where we parked the car.

Up on top looking down at where Dad climbed the rocks.

Don't they look cute?

Tide is already starting to cover some of the places we just were.

The Devil's Churn at Cape Perpetua. We saw it from the top of Cape Perpetua a while back.

These plants dwarf Mom

This huge old tree has some interesting limbs

The path leads down closer to the Churn

If anyone fell in they wouldn't stand a chance in there

There are holes in the rocks where the surf surges up.

Ocean and mountains - what a combination!

I was pretty tickled to catch this shot of a Spouting Horn. A Spouting Horn is a natural wonder which occurs when water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface

Cape Perpetua is beautiful

Heceta Head Lighthouse is way up on the mountian.

Another beautiful beach

You can CLIMB UP to the lighthouse. But it's a half a mile climb and I was too lazy to do it!

Cheers!!

A beautiful end to a wonderful visit
